Cats & Dogs Now Have Their Own Airline

January 15th, 2010

Traveling with a pet can be a huge stress and hassle. PetAirways offers a great affordable alternative to dragging your pet through the airport and stuffing them under an airline seat or checking them in as cargo.

For Christmas I bought my wife a Corgi puppy from her hometown in Indiana which is where we spent the Holidays. My original plan was to get the puppy a kennel and check him in as cargo for the flight home to Los Angeles. What I didn’t realize is that there are cold weather restrictions for pets flying in cargo. It’s up to the discretion of the airline to determine if it’s too cold for a pet to travel in cargo and if so, to re-schedule the passenger(s) along with the pet for another flight. The problem is that the weather wasn’t going to be above freezing for days (if not weeks) so we needed an alternative. My brother-in-law mentioned he had read about PetAirways so we looked them up on the internet. To our surprise we found out it would cost less to fly our dog out to LA using PetAirways than to have him fly with us on our flight. Our next concern was the quality of the service. We spent the time to read all the FAQs on the site to find out how our puppy would be handled from drop-off to delivery. We liked the fact that there is a pet lounge where pets can be dropped off and cared for in advance of their flight. We liked that all pets ride in the cabin of the plane and are looked after by one of the staff that travels with them. We liked that there are “potty-breaks” at each destination where the animals are walked and cared for. And we liked the fact that our longtime vet Dr. Werber was associated with the company.

So last Wednesday our corgi puppy flew out from Chicago to Los Angeles on PetAirways. Everyone at PetAirways was really friendly and the service was great! We will definitely use PetAirways in the future when our pets need to travel.
